Serious Eats Reads My Mind: Portugese Egg Tarts and Broadway

I have been obsessed with the Portuguese egg tart or “pasteis de nata” since I found the Ironbound district of Newark. The Chinese version called “dan ta” has been a staple since I clapped my eyes on my first dim sum cart at the tender age of 7. The difference? The Chinese version is less sweet (no caramelized sugar on top) but I found the Portugese version as satisfying, evoking no childhood memories, but creamy and sweet in its own right.
Also, see this Good Magazine article on the tastiest streets in America. Broadway, in Uptown Chicago is one of their picks. Some might remember this entry from a few months ago. I heartily concur Good magazine.
